Shoji Tanaka

(Assistant Professor of Business Administration, Setsunan University)

This study presents a systematic review of tourist inspiration, a topic that has recently received considerable attention in the field of tourism. Tourist inspiration is associated with intrinsic motivation, and in today's digital society, it is believed that opportunities for tourist inspiration to be nourished are increasing. The objectives of this study were, first, to identify and systematically summarize the current status of past and recent research on tourist inspiration and, second, to identify research gaps and provide directions for future research. This study conducted a systematic review of 30 papers derived from Hosany’s (2022) PRISMA framework, yielding the following results: 1) the progression of research, 2) methods and study context, 3) theories used, and 4) conceptualization, types, and scales. In addition, the antecedents and consequences of tourist inspiration are organized as a framework. It was also found that the current state of research on tourist inspiration is incomplete and there is a need for more research on this topic. Eleven research questions were divided into three themes: 1) Tourist Inspiration Scales, 2) Antecedents and Outcomes, and 3) Research Subjects and Methods presented as future research topics.
